Tax officials to only be contacted via the internet!
According to the new tax bill, taxpayers will only be able to contact tax officials online for many transactions.
Taxpayers will now only be able to communicate with the tax office digitally and through electronic messages. According to the new tax bill amending the Tax Procedure Law adopted in 2013, audits will be completed within a maximum of one year.
According to the report in Kathimerini, the amendments envisage the use of artificial intelligence during inspections.
According to the new draft law, communication, co-operation and work tempo between state institutions will increase and tax returns will be issued faster.
At the same time, a provision will be included to ensure that tax returns for employees and pensioners can be completed in advance.
The government is expected to submit the draft law, which it plans to bring to the parliamentary plenary for a vote in early April, to the relevant commission on Thursday 21 March.
Some of the proposed innovations and amendments to the tax law are summarised as follows
With the new draft law, the period of face-to-face communication of taxpayers with tax officials will end. Document delivery will now be digitalised.
State institutions will also accelerate the working co-operation among themselves. Finance will have the opportunity to access the information it wants more quickly.
Businesses and companies that keep simple books will be exempted from the obligation to submit their tax files, books and data for examination.
Most inspections will be carried out remotely online. Changes are foreseen in the process of determining the persons to be inspected.
The tax litigation process will start from the date of notification to the taxpayer.
Government officials say they believe that if their proposed amendments to the tax law are approved by the parliament, the accumulated problems in the field of taxation will be eliminated.
