4% tax discount available until April 30 for lump-sum payments

Taxpayers in Greece have until April 30 to benefit from a 4% discount on their income tax, provided they file their tax returns and make a lump-sum payment by the deadline. Although tax consultants have urged the government to extend the discount to those submitting by the end of May, the proposal has not been accepted.

FILING STATISTICS
Since the platform opened on March 17, more than 1.65 million declarations have been submitted, including over 192,000 from self-employed individuals. On April 25, approximately one million additional pre-filled returns are expected to be automatically filed.

According to data from the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE):

46.13% of taxpayers owe no additional tax. Out of 1,650,940 declarations, 761,578 are neutral.

24.15% of taxpayers, or 398,701 individuals, are entitled to a tax refund averaging €342.

29.72% of declarations are chargeable, totaling €737.6 million in taxes owed. The average tax due for these cases is €1,503.

TAX REFUNDS AND OFFSETS
The AADE has already deposited €69.27 million in refunds to 296,598 taxpayers. Additionally, 113,883 offsets have been made, amounting to €31.37 million, offsetting tax refunds against outstanding debts.

To receive a refund, taxpayers must correctly submit their IBAN on the myAADE digital portal. The AADE is still attempting to contact eligible taxpayers who are due a total of €168 million in refunds, which remain unpaid primarily due to missing documents or lack of response.

PAYMENT OPTIONS AND ADDITIONAL DISCOUNTS
The resulting tax can be paid either:

In eight monthly installments, starting July 31, 2025, or

In full, with a tiered discount depending on the submission date:

4% if filed by April 30

3% if filed by June 15

2% if filed by July 15

The government encourages taxpayers to submit early, verify their IBAN details, and take advantage of available discounts to reduce their tax burden.
