Greece introduces tax-free agricultural diesel as fuel subsidies contin
Professional farmers in Greece will be able to purchase diesel without paying the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) directly at the pump from Sunday, November 1, while government fuel subsidies and additional discounts for consumers have been extended until November 15.
The new agricultural diesel system aims to ease financial pressure on farmers by eliminating delays associated with the previous reimbursement process.
Tax exemption applied directly at the pump
Eligible farmers will be able to use the AADE's myDiesel application on their mobile phones to purchase diesel without being charged the SCT at the point of sale.
The exemption also covers the VAT corresponding specifically to the SCT, although it does not remove VAT from the entire fuel purchase.
In areas where the standard 24% VAT rate applies, the total tax relief reaches 50.84 cents per litre, comprising 41 cents in SCT and 9.84 cents in corresponding VAT.
The measure follows cooperation between the ministries of National Economy and Finance, Rural Development and Food, and the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE).
Fuel subsidies extended until November 15
Meanwhile, the government has extended subsidies on heating oil, diesel and unleaded petrol for the first half of November, maintaining the support levels introduced in the second half of October.
The subsidies from November 1 to 15 are set at:
- 20 cents per litre for heating oil.
- 15 cents per litre for diesel.
- 10 cents per litre for 95-octane unleaded petrol.
Additional discounts from refining companies bring the total consumer relief to 40 cents per litre for heating oil, 20 cents for diesel and 10 cents for unleaded petrol.
The fiscal cost of the extension is estimated at €35 million.
The government said it would continue monitoring international energy markets and introducing targeted measures to support households and businesses.
HELLENiQ ENERGY maintains additional discounts
HELLENiQ ENERGY has also announced that its emergency discounts on heating oil and diesel will remain in force until November 15.
Through its subsidiary HELLENiQ Petroleum, the company will provide trading companies with a discount of 16 cents per litre on heating oil, equivalent to a 20-cent reduction at the pump, including VAT.
For diesel, the additional discount remains at 4 cents per litre, corresponding to a five-cent reduction including VAT.
The company said the discounts apply to fuel intended for the domestic market and are intended to pass cost reductions directly to consumers.
The combined measures aim to ease fuel expenses for farmers, households and businesses amid continued uncertainty in international energy markets.
