Greek, Turkish finance ministers meet in Washington to discuss economic cooperation
Greek Economy and Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis has met with Turkish Minister of Finance Mehmet Simsek in Washington DC on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.
The two ministers discussed macroeconomic developments and growth prospects for the Greek and Turkish economies, placing particular emphasis on areas of mutual interest where cooperation could be strengthened.
According to a statement, the discussions focused on boosting interconnectivity between the two economies, improving the trade balance, expanding export capacity, and facilitating exports. The ministers also examined ways to support investment and promote joint projects in innovation, green and digital development, as well as fostering ties between business associations and chambers of commerce.
Pierrakakis and Simsek underlined the importance of increasing bilateral trade, which currently stands at around 5 billion euros annually. They also stressed the need to enhance investment flows and improve the business environment to support regional stability and shared prosperity.
