Gökçeada District Governor visits Turkish and Greek families, emphasizes “The State is always with you”
Gökçeada District Governor Osman Acar visited two residents in need of support due to health problems, underscoring the state’s commitment to social assistance regardless of ethnic or religious background.
According to local reports, Acar visited Murat Daklalı, a Turkish citizen facing serious health challenges, and Nikolaos Virçon, a Greek-origin resident, at their homes on Gökçeada island in Türkiye.
During the visits, the district governor assessed their living conditions, health status, and needs, and reportedly instructed relevant public institutions to take necessary action to provide support where required.
The visits were described as part of broader “compassion visits” aimed at strengthening social ties between local authorities and residents. Authorities emphasized that the state remains committed to standing by citizens in need, particularly the elderly, disabled, and those facing difficult living conditions.
In remarks following the visits, Governor Acar highlighted the importance of social solidarity, stating that engaging directly with citizens and addressing their concerns is among the core responsibilities of public administration.
Gökçeada, the largest island in the Aegean Sea belonging to Türkiye, has historically been home to both Turkish residents and Greek minority communities, reflecting its long-standing multicultural structure. The governor’s visits were presented as an example of equal treatment of all citizens, regardless of ethnic or religious identity.
