Main opposition continues to trace DEYAK's financial expenses

The financial budget of the municipal Directorate of Water and Sewerage Administration (DEYAK) continues to be the subject of debate between the administration of the Municipality of Komotini and the main opposition.

The municipal administration headed by Yannis Garanis and the Citizens' Community team led by Yannis Garanis did not find the answer given by the press release issued by the main opposition wing, KOMOTINI DINATA team and its leader Antonis Gravanis, unsatisfactory and continue to keep the issue of the financial budget of DEYAK on the agenda.

The main opposition, finding the response unsatisfactory, has issued a new press release. The main opposition, led by Andonis Gravanis, accused the mayor and the administration of not sharing accurate information and keeping the budgetary expenditures secret:

"Following the response of the municipal administration headed by Garanis to the "darkness" in the financial management of DEYAK, we must return for reasons of legitimacy and transparency.

The press release issued by the "Citizens' Community" does not answer any questions and only seeks to confuse public opinion. This in itself is an indication of serious "guilt" and acceptance of responsibility.

For months, the opposition organisations have been demanding information about the financial management of DEYAK, and DEYAK's mayor and his administration have been withholding it.

After the lying Mayor stated that the information was open to every councillor, Councillor Mr Loutatidis asked for financial information by letter dated 21/10/2022 and by question to the City Council on 24/10/2022 and NEVER received an answer. The same happened with our requests.

In addition, as in all NFIs of the country, the approval of the funded projects applied for does not exempt the administration from the legal obligation to approve and publish the balance sheets. Mr. The municipal administration of Mr Petridis, with Mr Karastavrou as chairman. The municipal administration of Mr Petridis, headed by Mr Karastavrou, covered the funded projects, but also approved and published the balance sheets in accordance with the legislation.

The panic and uneasiness in the reaction of the Mayor, who has absolute knowledge and responsibility for what is happening in DEYAK, unfortunately proves that the darkness is deep.

Complaints about hundreds of thousands of euros in direct appointments to contractors for staffing and project contracts just before the elections, as well as the hiring of an excessive number of workers, many of whom were simply pre-election "bribes", have caused our intense concern.

We therefore repeat the questions that have never been answered:

1. Why are the balance sheet, financial statements and financial data requested by the municipal councillors withheld and withheld?

2. Why was it not approved by the Board of Directors? Why has DEYAK not been audited by certified public accountants and its balance sheets for the years 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 not been published, when good management is a clear obligation according to the legislation?

In addition, we ask the following questions:

  1. Since Mr Garanis answered the question about DEYAK as a list of the "Citizens' Community", we ask that all elected municipal councillors of the "Citizens' Community" be informed about what is happening in DEYAK.
  2. How many workers were employed at DEYAK in June 2019 under project contracts and through contractors, and how many are currently employed?
  3. Is it true that DEYAK's debts to the State Electricity Authority (DEI) amount to millions of euros? What is the exact amount?"
