US intensifies strikes on Iran as Trump warns of broader military action

The United States launched a new wave of strikes against Iran, targeting dozens of military sites near the Strait of Hormuz, as President Donald Trump warned that attacks would intensify unless Tehran returns to negotiations.

The latest escalation comes despite a Pakistani-mediated memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict between the two countries.

US expands military operations

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said fighter aircraft, drones and naval vessels carried out a seven-hour operation against Iranian missile and drone facilities, naval assets and coastal defense systems. The command said the strikes were intended to reduce Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM also confirmed that US forces had resumed a naval blockade on vessels traveling to and from Iranian ports, adding that American forces remain prepared for further operations.

Trump issues warning

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said US strikes would continue and become more severe unless Iran agrees to negotiate.

He warned that Washington could target Iran's power plants and bridges next week if no agreement is reached, while saying energy infrastructure could also become a future target. Trump added that US officials remain in contact with Iranian counterparts and expressed confidence that Tehran would eventually seek a deal.

Iran responds

Iran said it launched a seventh wave of drone attacks against the US-operated Azraq Air Base in Jordan, targeting aircraft positions, military accommodation and equipment facilities.

The Iranian military described the strike as part of its ongoing response to US attacks and vowed to continue operations if further action is taken against Iranian territory.

Meanwhile, Iran accused Washington of violating the Islamabad memorandum of understanding and submitted a letter to the United Nations alleging breaches of the agreement.

The latest exchange marks another escalation in tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, where both sides have continued military operations despite diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
