The main opposition repeats the question on budget expenditures
Antonis Gravanis, President of KOMOTINI DINATA, the main opposition in the Municipality of Komotini, and his team had last week criticised the Mayor Yannis Garanis and his administration on the budget of 6 million euros and asked the Mayor where the money disappeared.
Mayor Yannis Garanis responded to the main opposition criticising him with a written statement in which he explained the projects and activities for which the money had been spent and in what amounts.
The main opposition, which did not find the government's response satisfactory, made a second statement on the budget expenditures by repeating the question "How did 6 million euros disappear from the coffers of the Municipality of Komotini, Mr Garanis?" to Mayor Garanis. The main opposition said in its statement:
"The mayor is in a great panic and has increased the dose of slander and lies. He has still failed to explain how 6 million euros "disappeared" from the municipal coffers.
During his three years in office, he has dragged the Municipality of Komotini into a collapse and has endeavoured to place the burden of responsibility on everyone but himself:
Firstly, the Deputy Mayors in charge of the Economy and the Municipal Administration in the period 2007-2010.
Of course, he skilfully avoids remembering the economic recession of 2007-2009. As a result, the recession of that period led to the economic depression of 2010. The 2010 economic crisis devastated millions of Greek citizens, but it also plunged the country as a whole into a long period of hardship.
Secondly, the person to whom the mayor attributes the responsibility is Yorgos Petridis. In 2019, in the midst of the crisis, Yorgos Petridis handed over €8,300,000 to the new municipal administration. The current mayor, on the other hand, has tried to cover up the 6 million euros by publicly denying Yorgos Petridis.
Thirdly, in order to justify the collapse to his elected officials, he issued a press release in which he says the following about the content of the relevant law: "...the President sets the overall strategy. But then he authorises elected officials to implement this strategy! ..."
A tremendous tactic of irresponsibility, Mr Garanis! After all, are you the mayor or just someone who sits in that chair?
In the period 2007-2010, ALL financial transactions of the Deputy Mayors in charge of the economy were audited by the Court of Accounts as a precautionary measure and ALL reports were signed by the President of the Court of Accounts. However, during the Garanis administration, financial transactions were not audited.
Therefore, he should take out the "chewing gum in his mouth" regarding the period 13 years ago! Because, either he does not have any evidence to make a proper accusation and only has the logic of "throw mud and leave a trace", or he knows something and does not report it. This makes him an accomplice.
In addition, we remind you that under the presidency of Mr Petridis and with Mr Politiadis as Deputy Mayor in charge of the Economy, he increased the money in the coffers to 8,300,000 euros. Whereas, under the presidency of Mr. Mr Politiadis, who was the Deputy Mayor in charge of the Economy under the presidency of Mr Garanis. Mr Politiadis reduced the amount of money in the coffers by 6 million euros. You find the difference in this function, Mr Garanis!
Finally, with regard to Mr Garanis, who tried to deny the previous mayor the amount of money he left in the coffers. Regarding Mr Garanis, we all knew from the minutes of the council meetings and public statements that this amount was €8,300,000. Garanis declares that the amount he inherited is €6 million.
Again Mr Politiadis gives the answer to the President. 6 days before the elections, on 20/05/2019, in an interview with ERT Komotini radio, he clearly states that the money in the safe is 8.300.000 euros. Mr Garanis assumed the presidency on 01/09/2019.
We watch with great admiration how "cleverly" Mr Garanis has developed a tactic of ingratitude and his lack of political morality. He is constantly trying to belittle Mr Petridis, who served as Mayor in the previous term. We would like to remind him of the following maxim: "Even the chicken looks at God when drinking water" ...
If we go back to the essence of our question, which we can clearly see has caused panic and anger. Mr Politiadis gave a different answer in the parliamentary debate. Mr Garanis gave a different answer in a radio interview on 05/05/2019. In his press statement, he gave a different explanation. Since we are not convinced by all these different answers, we ask for a single and definite answer:
How did the 6 million euro disappear from the coffers of the Municipality of Komotini, Mr Garanis? Garanis?"
