Greek small businesses can now sell goods across the European Union without charging VAT on transactions of up to €100,000, following the launch of a new special cross-border VAT regime, tax authorities said.

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has activated a dedicated digital platform allowing eligible small enterprises to apply for inclusion in the scheme. To qualify, a business’s total EU turnover must not exceed €100,000 in both the current and previous year, while domestic annual turnover in Greece must remain below €10,000.

The new framework simplifies cross-border trade by eliminating the need for VAT registration in multiple EU member states and removing the obligation to file VAT returns under different national systems. The regime aims to boost the international activity of small businesses by easing administrative burdens.

Under the scheme, businesses must submit quarterly reports on their EU-wide transactions and notify AADE immediately if turnover thresholds are exceeded. If the €100,000 EU limit is surpassed, the VAT exemption ends automatically.

Tax authorities will coordinate with other EU member states to monitor compliance and issue identification numbers for participating businesses.
