Trump gives Iran ‘One Last Shot’ as Tehran warns of wider regional war

US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Washington would give diplomacy with Iran “one shot,” while Tehran warned that any renewed conflict could expand across the region.

Speaking at Joint Base Andrews, Trump said he was in “no hurry” to reach an agreement despite tensions remaining high after months of conflict between the US, Israel and Iran.

“Ideally, I’d like to see few people killed, as opposed to a lot,” Trump said, adding that the talks were in their “final stages.”

Trump also reaffirmed support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying the two leaders were aligned on Iran policy.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials said the US had failed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz despite repeated efforts, according to remarks carried by ISNA news agency. A senior IRGC naval official said Iranian forces remained ready to respond to any future attack.

An Iranian military source also told Russia’s RIA Novosti that Tehran possesses advanced weapons that have not yet been used in combat.

The latest statements came as Pakistan continued mediation efforts between Tehran and Washington following a ceasefire that took effect on April 8 after weeks of regional escalation.
