The exercise, dubbed 'Auspicious Omen 25', was observed by DM Nikos Dendias and the Hellenic Army's general staff.

Army units on Friday held a military exercise in northeast Greece, in the İskeçe (Xanthi) region, billed as the first such maneuver where domestically made drone and anti-drone systems were deployed.

The exercise, code-named “Auspicious Omen 25”, was held in two phases, and focused heavily on the use (First Person View piloting), management and exploitation of the unnamed aerial systems, on the one hand, along with dealing with enemy UAVs, drones and loitering munitions, on the other.

The exercise was observed by Defense Minister Nikos Dendias and the Hellenic Army’s general staff leadership.

Meanwhile, in a related development, work officially commenced on Friday on the construction and assembly of an Unmanned Semi-Fixed Sea Platform for Maritime Surveillance (USSPS), following a collaboration between the Athens Polytechnic, Salamis Shipyards and the defense ministry.

The partially EU-funded project is part of the European Defense Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP).

Following the signing of the contract, construction of the platform’s main deck and floats commenced. Full installation and operational deployment in the western Aegean, off the Peloponnese, is expected by April 2026.
