Samothrace to host 19th journalism conference in September
The conference will take place under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas, and is co-organized by the Panhellenic Federation of Journalists' Unions (POESY) and the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
The event has become an established institution in Greece's media landscape. It was revived in 2022, making the 2026 gathering the third conference since its relaunch.
Journalism, society and the environmental crisis
The three-day conference will bring together prominent figures from academia, journalism, local government, politics, the economy and environmental organizations to discuss developments affecting the media and wider society.
The main themes of this year's conference will be:
- The Greek language and journalism
- The environmental crisis: The major challenge for journalism
- The organizers say the conference will provide an opportunity to examine contemporary challenges facing journalism while bringing together professionals and experts from different fields.
Major organizations supporting the event
The conference is supported by a number of major institutions and companies.
Its sponsors include Alpha Bank, Eurobank, the Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (OFYPEKA), RECO Exports, a company specializing in development, export management and brokerage in the food and beverage sector, and Northern Greece Ceramics (KEBE).
AEGEAN is the conference's official air transport sponsor.
Communication sponsors include ERT, the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA) and the Association of Municipal Radio and Television Media of Greece.

With its return to Samothrace, the journalism conference is set to bring together leading voices from Greece's media and public life while focusing on two issues at the center of current public debate: the future of journalism and the environmental crisis.
