19th Journalism Conference of Samothrace to take place from September 25 to 27

The conference is held under the auspices of Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas and with the support of Greek Parliament Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis.

Jointly organized by the Panhellenic Federation of Journalists’ Unions and the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, the annual event has developed into a forum for discussion and exchange on issues affecting journalism and the wider public sphere.

This year’s conference will feature 45 speakers and 150 journalists selected by lottery through journalists’ unions across Greece.

Greek language and environmental crisis
The 2026 program will focus on two main themes: the relationship between the Greek language and journalism, and the environmental crisis as a major challenge for the media.

Organizers say the conference will examine journalism’s role in preserving and developing the Greek language, as well as its responsibility to provide citizens with accurate, responsible and evidence-based information about the environmental crisis and its consequences.

The event will also address broader questions concerning press freedom, media independence and the credibility of journalistic discourse at a time of rapid social and technological change.

Organizers describe the conference as an open forum for reflection rather than simply an industry gathering.

Online broadcast to be available
People unable to travel to Samothrace will be able to follow the conference online. Organizers said details of the livestream will be announced in the coming days.

The conference is sponsored by ERT, the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA) and the Association of Municipal Radio and Television Media of Greece.
