The event took place on Friday, January 23, and featured Sezer Rıza and Hasan Hasan, both graduates of journalism studies and experienced journalists from Western Thrace, as guest speakers.

Sharing Professional Experience with Students

During the session, the speakers shared their professional journeys and personal experiences in journalism in an open and interactive discussion with students.

Hasan Hasan recalled his first lecture during journalism studies, highlighting the importance of effective and accurate communication. Both speakers emphasized that critical thinking, strong listening skills and an investigative mindset are essential qualities for anyone pursuing a career in journalism.

They noted that individuals who constantly ask “why” about events around them are naturally more inclined toward the profession. Students were also provided with general information about all departments within Faculties of Communication.

Journalism in the Age of Digitalisation and AI

The speakers underlined that journalism has been undergoing a significant transformation due to digitalisation and the widespread use of smartphones. Young people considering journalism were encouraged to reflect on whether they genuinely enjoy researching, writing and questioning information.

Responding to a student’s question, the speakers explained that artificial intelligence can serve as a supportive tool in modern journalism. However, they stressed that ensuring accuracy, completeness and ethical responsibility in news reporting remains crucial.

While AI may simplify certain processes, they noted that human judgment and experience are indispensable for fully understanding and conveying events. The speakers concluded by stating that the value of human labour and journalistic integrity will be appreciated even more in the future.
