Panthrakikos collaborator, physiotherapist dies while jogging
Physiotherapist and Panthrakikos collaborator Christos Koutras, 65, died on Sunday after collapsing while jogging near the village of Fanari in northeastern Greece.
Koutras was reportedly taking his usual morning jog when he collapsed at around 8 a.m. near the entrance to Fanari. Initial information indicated that he suffered cardiac arrest.
Passersby found him and immediately called the emergency services while attempting to provide first aid.
Local community president Petros Karavetis also rushed to the scene after being alerted and called lifeguards from the area.
The lifeguards performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation and used a defibrillator in an attempt to revive him.
An ambulance arrived about 30 minutes later, and emergency responders continued resuscitation efforts while transporting him to Gümülcine (Komotini) Hospital. His death was confirmed upon arrival.
Panthrakikos mourns loss
Koutras, who was originally from Ferecik (Feres) in the Meriç (Evros) region, worked as a physiotherapist in Gümülcine (Komotini) and collaborated with football club Panthrakikos.
The club expressed its condolences to his family, describing him as an outstanding scientist and recognizing his professional contribution to the team and to sport in Thrace.
“The Panthrakikos family expresses its deep sorrow over the loss of physiotherapist and outstanding professional Christos Koutras,” the club said.
“He provided valuable services to our club with consistency and professionalism, leaving his own distinctive mark on sport in Thrace.”
Koutras was widely respected in the local community for his professional expertise, courtesy and calm character.
