Bank deposits in the regional unit of İskeçe have surpassed €1 billion for the first time in a decade, according to the latest report by the Bank of Greece.

At the end of 2025, total deposits in İskeçe reached €1.039 billion, marking a 4.74% increase—approximately €47 million—compared to 2024. This milestone represents the first time deposits have crossed the €1 billion threshold since 2015.

Among the Lowest in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace
Despite the growth, İskeçe ranks second-to-last among the regional units of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, outperforming only Rhodope in total deposit volume.

The number of deposit accounts in İskeçe stood at 283,035 in 2025, slightly down from 289,000 the previous year, even as total deposits have steadily increased since 2019.

Regional Comparison
The regional leader remains Kavala, where deposits reached €1.945 billion by the end of 2025, reflecting a €87 million (4.68%) increase year-on-year.

Meriç followed with €1.762 billion in deposits, showing modest growth of €8 million (0.44%). Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Meriç had slightly higher deposit levels than Kavala but has since lagged behind in growth.

Drama was the only regional unit to record a slight decline, with deposits falling marginally by €3 million (0.3%) to €1.088 billion.

Meanwhile, Rhodope continues to rank last, with total deposits of €994 million, although it recorded the highest growth rate at 7.39%, equivalent to an increase of €68 million.

Regional Outlook
Across the entire Eastern Macedonia and Thrace region, total deposits reached €6.828 billion in 2025, representing an overall increase of €207 million (3.12%) compared to the previous year.

The data suggests a steady recovery and growth trend in household and business savings across the region, despite disparities between regional units.
