Sokratis Famelos announces candidacy for SYRIZA leadership
As the race for the leadership of SYRIZA heats up, Famelos’ candidacy is seen as a pivotal moment for the party.
In his announcement speech, Famelos emphasized his goal of restructuring the party and regaining public trust. Following SYRIZA’s defeat in the most recent elections, he highlighted the need for renewal, stating, "We must expand SYRIZA’s social base and develop policies that better address the people’s demands."
Famelos pledged to lead with an inclusive and democratic approach, aiming to strengthen unity and solidarity within the party. He plans to focus on policies that resonate with the youth and working class while maintaining SYRIZA’s core values. Famelos expressed his commitment to modernizing the party’s political vision while staying true to its roots.
He also stressed that during his candidacy, SYRIZA’s past policies would be evaluated, ensuring the party remains a strong leftist opposition without compromising its principles. "I am determined to implement reforms that will bring our party back to power in the future," Famelos said.
Famelos, a member of parliament for Thessaloniki, was elected as the party’s parliamentary group leader following Alexis Tsipras’ resignation. He held this position until Stefanos Kasselakis was elected as the new leader.
