The political balance in the Hellenic Parliament has shifted after Syriza MP Nina Kasimati was expelled from the party’s parliamentary group and Olga Gerovasili became an independent lawmaker.

Both Kasimati and Gerovasili will continue serving as independent MPs. Following their departures, Syriza’s parliamentary representation fell from 12 to 10 seats, pushing the party into fifth place among the parliamentary groups.

The Greek Solution, with 11 MPs, moved up to fourth place, while the number of independent lawmakers in Parliament increased from 51 to 53.

Syriza nominates new deputy speaker candidate
Syriza parliamentary group leader Rena Dourou has nominated MP Elena Akrita as the party’s candidate for deputy speaker in the election scheduled for next Wednesday.

Gerovasili, meanwhile, has not only become an independent MP but has also stepped down from her position as deputy speaker of Parliament.

Parliament approves €200,000 for Sotiria hospital
The Conference of Presidents of the Hellenic Parliament also approved a €200,000 financial contribution to Sotiria General Hospital for Chest Diseases following a proposal by Parliament Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis.

The funding is intended to renovate and make functional the basement of the 300-member Parliament building. The project aims to support the development of new specialized cardiology services at the hospital.
