25 defendants appear in Mykonos police corruption trial; businessman absent
Twenty-five defendants appeared before the Athens Court of Appeal on Wednesday, 4 November, in a high-profile case involving alleged police corruption, drug trafficking and the provision of protection to businesses on the Greek island of Mykonos.
The defendants were brought to court shortly before 9 am. However, businessman A.G., known as “Mr Choriatiko”, who is among those facing trial, was absent from the transfer.
At the centre of the case is a former senior police officer who served in the Mykonos Police Sub-Directorate. He is accused of leading a criminal organisation between 2022 and 2025 that allegedly used access to confidential police information to facilitate drug trafficking and provide services to private individuals.
BUSINESSMAN ACCUSED OF BRIBING POLICE OFFICER
A.G. faces charges of bribing a public official. According to the case file, he allegedly paid the former officer at least €300 per month in exchange for confidential police information, including vehicle ownership details obtained through registration plates.
The officer is also accused of warning the businessman about surprise police inspections at a nightclub he managed on the island.
In addition, A.G. is accused of offering €3,000 to facilitate a mutual transfer arrangement that would have allowed the officer to remain stationed in Mykonos.
OTHER POLICE OFFICERS AMONG THE DEFENDANTS
The indictment also involves senior police officers who allegedly assisted in drug trafficking activities.
An officer from the Attica Narcotics Division is accused of misappropriating undeclared quantities of seized drugs and passing them to an informant for resale on the illegal market.
The case, widely referred to as the “trial of the 25”, concerns alleged links between members of the police force, drug trafficking networks and businesses operating on Mykonos.
All allegations remain subject to examination by the court, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
