Interview poll shows New Democracy leading by double digits as SYRIZA remains below parliamentary threshold
Greece’s ruling New Democracy (ND) party maintains a double-digit lead over its political rivals, according to a new opinion poll by Interview, which places the Hellenic Solution party (EL.AS.) in second place ahead of PASOK and shows SYRIZA remaining below the parliamentary threshold.
According to the poll, New Democracy leads voting intention with 26.8%, holding an 11-point advantage over EL.AS., which records 15.8%. PASOK ranks third with 10.1%, while the Hellenic Solution follows closely with 8.9%, narrowing the gap with PASOK to 1.2 percentage points.
The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) receives 5.9%, while Maria Karystianou’s "Elpida" movement records 5.3%. Near the 3% parliamentary threshold are MeRA25 with 3.1%, Voice of Reason with 3%, and Course of Freedom with 2.9%.
Lower percentages are recorded by the Democrats with 2.4%, SYRIZA with 1%, New Left with 0.5% and Niki with 0.3%.
The poll shows that 9% of respondents remain undecided, while another 5% say they would vote for another party. Combined, 14% of voters are not currently choosing among the main political formations included in the survey.
Potential Samaras party gains attention
The survey also examined the possibility of a new political movement led by former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras. Twelve percent of respondents said they would be "very" or "fairly" likely to support such a party. When those who answered "somewhat likely" are included, the potential support base rises to 21%. Meanwhile, 78% said they would not vote for a Samaras-led party.
Limited expectations for Rena Dourou in SYRIZA
Days after Rena Dourou was elected president of SYRIZA’s parliamentary group, expectations regarding her ability to strengthen the party’s political influence remain limited.
Only 7% of respondents, and 11% of SYRIZA voters, believe she can provide new momentum to the party. Pavlos Polakis receives higher support, with 23% overall and 30% among SYRIZA voters.
The majority selected "none," with 60% of all respondents and 52% of SYRIZA supporters saying they do not see new leadership potential.
Low trust in political institutions
The survey also highlights low levels of public trust in political institutions. Only 8% of respondents expressed confidence in political parties, while trust in Parliament stood at 17% and the judiciary at 23%.
By contrast, the military recorded significantly higher confidence levels, with 62% expressing positive views.
Regarding social groups perceived as most affected by government policies, 44% said small and medium-sized businesses and self-employed workers had been treated unfairly, followed by salaried employees at 26% and pensioners at 21%.
Prime minister preference
In terms of suitability for prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis leads with 29.9%. Former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and the response "none" share second place with 16.6%.
The Interview poll reflects Greece’s current political landscape, highlighting New Democracy’s continued lead, challenges facing opposition parties and widespread concerns over institutional trust.
