Young Mufti Office Şahin girls group embarks on cultural journey across the Balkans
The Şahin Girls Group, operating under the Mufti Office of İskeçe, has successfully completed a comprehensive five-day cultural tour across the Balkans, aimed at deepening students’ understanding of shared history and heritage in the region.
Organized with the support of Mufti of İskeçe and Chairman of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board, Mustafa Trampa, the educational trip brought together young participants for an immersive experience combining historical exploration and cultural awareness.
A Journey Through History and Heritage
Ohrid: A Gateway to the Past
The program began in Ohrid, where students explored the ancient theatre, traditional Ottoman-era houses, and the Handmade Paper and Printing Museum. The visit provided valuable insights into the region’s rich historical legacy.
Tirana and Shkodra: Faith and Nature Intertwined
On the second day, the group traveled to Tirana to visit the iconic Namazgah Mosque. The journey continued to Shkodra, where participants toured Rozafa Castle and enjoyed the scenic surroundings of the Buna River and Lake Shkodra.
Prizren and Kosovo: Remembering the Past
The third day took the group to Prizren, where they visited the historic Stone Bridge and the old bazaar. The students also paid their respects at the Tomb of Sultan Murad, reflecting on the region’s Ottoman heritage.
Tetovo and Matka Canyon: Culture Meets Nature
On the fourth day, the group visited Tetovo, touring the renowned Alaca Mosque and Harabati Baba Tekke. The day concluded with a tour of the breathtaking Matka Canyon, offering a blend of natural beauty and tranquility.
Skopje: A Fitting Finale
The final day was spent in Skopje, where participants explored the city center, concluding a journey filled with cultural discovery.
Strengthening Cultural Identity
This meaningful Balkan tour allowed students to witness firsthand the historical and cultural landmarks shaped by centuries of shared heritage. The experience aimed not only to educate but also to foster a deeper sense of identity and belonging among participants.
