A 58-year-old Bulgarian national died after being pulled unconscious from the sea at Taraşmanlı (Erasmio) beach in İskeçe (Xanthi), northeastern Greece, on Sunday, authorities said.

A 58-year-old Bulgarian national died after being pulled unconscious from the sea at Taraşmanlı (Erasmio) beach in İskeçe (Xanthi), northeastern Greece, on Sunday, authorities said.

The man was recovered from the coastal waters around midday on Aug. 30.

First aid provided by lifeguards

Lifeguards provided first aid at the scene before the man was taken by ambulance to Bulustra (Avdira) Health Center.

Doctors at the health center subsequently pronounced him dead.

Port authority investigates

The Port of Porto Lagos Authority is conducting a preliminary investigation into the incident.

A forensic examination and autopsy have been ordered by the Thrace Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of death.
