Metios to seek judicial investigation into Topsidis’ business activities
Christos Metios, the leader of the main opposition in the Eastern Macedonia-Thrace Regional Council and former Regional Governor, announced plans to refer allegations concerning Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis’ overseas business dealings to judicial authorities and relevant institutions.
In a statement issued today, Metios highlighted rumors that Topsidis allegedly co-owns a company in neighboring Turkey, which he claims has become public knowledge. Despite calls for clarification, Topsidis has yet to address these allegations.
Metios outlined his forthcoming actions as follows:
Requesting an investigation by the Thrace Appellate Prosecutor into Topsidis’ involvement in foreign companies under Law 3213/2003.
Seeking review by the General Secretary of the Macedonia-Thrace Regional Administration on whether Topsidis’ alleged ownership violates his gubernatorial responsibilities.
Demanding an examination of potential legal inconsistencies arising from Topsidis simultaneously serving as the President of the Evros Chamber of Commerce and the Regional Governor.
Metios also emphasized that Topsidis should refrain from blaming political opponents for any ensuing developments, stating, “He alone will be responsible for any adverse outcomes.”
Greek law prohibits regional governors and their immediate family members from owning businesses abroad. Recent media reports have alleged Topsidis or his relatives are connected to such enterprises.
