Turkish consul general meets Eastern Macedonia and Thrace governor Topsidis
Türkiye’s Consul General in Gümülcine, Aykut Ünal, met with Hristodulos Topsidis, Governor of the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region, during a visit to Topsidis’ office in Gümülcine on Monday, September 7.
The meeting focused on mobility between Türkiye and Greece and ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries’ border regions.
Following the meeting, the Consulate General of Türkiye in Gümülcine said on social media that the two sides held a “productive meeting” on mobility between Türkiye and Greece and cooperation between border regions. The consulate also thanked Topsidis for his “kind reception.”
Ünal was accompanied during the visit by Deputy Consul Umut Yamık.
According to a statement from the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Regional Authority, the discussions also covered tourism, transportation, trade, cross-border cooperation and public health.
The importance of strengthening cross-border coordination and cooperation between relevant institutions in the fight against mosquitoes and animal diseases was also highlighted.
The meeting comes as Türkiye and Greece continue to explore ways to enhance cooperation and mobility in their border regions, with tourism, trade, transportation and public health among the areas of shared interest.
