İskeçe MP Baran condemns attack on Çınar Mosque
Independent İskeçe (Xanthi) MP Burhan Baran has strongly condemned the writing of offensive expressions targeting Allah and sacred values of Islam on the exterior walls of Çınar Mosque, stressing that respect for religious beliefs is essential to peaceful coexistence.
In a written statement, Baran said he condemned the inscriptions with “great sadness and anger,” emphasizing that any form of disrespect toward places of worship is unacceptable.
“No disrespect toward places of worship can be accepted”
Baran said Çınar Mosque is more than a building, describing it as a sacred place where millions of people worship, pray and find peace.
He stressed that attacks or acts of disrespect against places of worship and sacred sites are unacceptable regardless of religion, language or belief.
While people are free to express different opinions and criticism, Baran said this should never be done by insulting other people's religious beliefs or places of worship.
“We need respect and brotherhood, not hatred”
Baran warned against normalizing disrespect toward sacred values, saying that remaining silent in the face of attacks on one place of worship could encourage similar acts against others.
“Necessary legal action must be taken”
Baran said he expects the individuals responsible for the attack to be identified and for the necessary legal proceedings to be initiated.
He also extended his wishes for a speedy recovery to the Çınar Mosque congregation and all those affected by the incident.
