Gümülcine mufti’s office condemns attack on Çınar Mosque
In a written statement concerning the incident, the Mufti’s Office said offensive expressions were written on the exterior wall near the mosque’s entrance on Sunday, September 13.
“Aiming to harm social peace”
The statement described the graffiti as expressions that disregard “moral and human values” and contain serious insults against the belief in Almighty Allah.
The Mufti’s Office also pointed to what it described as a recent increase in media reports and social media posts targeting the religious and cultural values of the Muslim Turkish Minority of Western Thrace.
It said the expressions written on the mosque wall should be viewed as part of this broader environment.
According to the statement, provocative acts of this nature threaten social peace, unity and solidarity. It also emphasized that places of worship and religious beliefs are not merely symbols belonging to a particular faith, but form part of humanity’s shared spiritual heritage.
Call for perpetrators to be arrested
The Gümülcine (Komotini) Mufti’s Office condemned similar attacks targeting religious beliefs, sacred values and places of worship.
It called on law enforcement authorities to identify and arrest the perpetrator or perpetrators as soon as possible and ensure that they receive the appropriate punishment.
