Eastern Macedonia and Thrace allocates €25 million for water supply projects

The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace has activated a €25 million funding programme to support municipalities and municipal water and sewage companies in upgrading drinking water infrastructure across the region.

The funding call, titled AMTH74 “Interventions to improve sustainable water management and resilience infrastructure,” was activated by Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis under the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace 2021–2027 Programme, with resources from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The initiative aims to improve access to sufficient and high-quality drinking water while strengthening the resilience of water infrastructure against drought and the effects of climate change.

Focus on modern and resilient water infrastructure
The programme adopts a comprehensive approach to water resource management, supporting investments in drought prevention and response, water storage and treatment, as well as modern technologies designed to make water networks more efficient and intelligent.

Eligible municipalities and Municipal Water and Sewerage Companies (DEYA) will be able to use the funding to upgrade water supply networks, develop water storage and treatment infrastructure, introduce modern monitoring and management systems, and implement measures to protect water resources.

Topsidis: Reliable water infrastructure is a priority
Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis said securing adequate and high-quality drinking water is a key priority and an important factor in protecting citizens’ quality of life and everyday safety.

“With €25 million in funding, we are investing in infrastructure that will deliver direct and substantial benefits to local communities,” Topsidis said, adding that the goal is for every municipality and local community in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace to have modern and reliable water supply infrastructure.

The programme is expected to support local authorities in addressing growing water management challenges while improving the long-term resilience of drinking water systems across the region.
