Christos Topsidis meets Austrian ambassador to discuss regional cooperation
Christos Topsidis, regional governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, met Austrian Ambassador to Greece Gerda Vogl in Gümülcine (Komotini) to discuss opportunities for closer cooperation between the region and Austria.
The meeting took place in connection with a concert by the Greek-Austrian String Academy in the city, according to a report published by Greek newspaper Empros on October 1, 2026.

In a statement shared on social media, Topsidis said the two sides discussed ways to strengthen ties between Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and Austria.
While culture remains an important link, the talks also covered economic development, innovation, connectivity, cross-border infrastructure and customs procedures.
Topsidis said the discussions focused on identifying areas where cooperation could be developed further and translated into concrete initiatives.
The meeting highlights the potential for regional-level engagement between Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and Austria across cultural and economic fields. However, no specific agreements or new projects were announced in the statement cited by Empros.
