Speaking on Radio Paratiritis, Foteinias highlighted that the majority of the outbreaks are in the Evros region, where over 60 farms have been affected. Kavala has confirmed cases in 11 farms, while in Rodopi, there are confirmed cases in two farms, with two more under investigation.

By the end of the week, the number of animals culled due to the disease is expected to reach between 14,000 and 15,000. Foteinias described the situation as severe, noting that the sporadic appearance of the disease in various areas complicates efforts to contain it. The outbreaks are not linked to major highways or wetland areas, making it difficult to determine the source of the infection.

To aid in the fight against the spread of the disease, 12 veterinarians from other organizations, including OPEKEPE and ELGO-DIMITRA, have joined the regional efforts. They will assist in the epidemiological investigation of the disease. Foteinias also announced that disinfection trenches have been activated in Evros, but concerns remain about the need for mandatory traffic diversions, especially on rural roads, which pose safety risks.

Foteinias emphasized the importance of cooperation from farmers, urging them to follow biosecurity measures. He called on farmers to disinfect their farms, limit exposure of their animals, and ensure proper maintenance of their livestock facilities. He stressed that farmers must take personal responsibility to protect their herds and comply with the relevant legislation.
