Systematic water Quality monitoring underway at 177 beaches across Eastern Macedonia and Thrace
Greek health authorities are carrying out systematic water quality monitoring at 177 designated bathing beaches across the regions of Macedonia and Thrace throughout the 2026 summer season to ensure safe swimming conditions for residents and visitors.
The monitoring program includes regular microbiological testing of seawater samples to verify compliance with national and European Union bathing water standards. Beaches are assessed periodically during the bathing season, allowing authorities to identify any potential public health risks and take immediate action if necessary.
Officials said the initiative is designed to safeguard public health while maintaining high environmental standards at some of northern Greece's most popular coastal destinations.
The inspections form part of Greece's nationwide bathing water monitoring program, which follows EU regulations requiring regular assessment of designated bathing sites.
