Kumçiftliği (Orestiada) expands mosquito control efforts with smart devices
Orestiada Mayor Diamantis Papadopoulos told ERT Orestiada that the first device was installed last June at the city’s open-air municipal theatre. According to the mayor, the impact was noticeable to residents attending events at the venue.
Following the initial trial, the municipality decided to purchase two additional devices as part of its efforts to reduce mosquito nuisance in busy public spaces.
Two more devices to be installed
One of the new devices will be installed in the central square of Nea Orestiada, while the second will be placed in a popular and frequently visited park in the city.
The municipality’s decision follows the positive assessment of the first installation and aims to extend the mosquito-control measure to additional areas where residents and visitors gather.
New devices funded through relocation programme
Papadopoulos also revealed that the two additional devices were purchased by the first resident to relocate to Orestiada through the government’s subsidised relocation programme.
The initiative adds another measure to the municipality’s efforts to improve conditions in public spaces, particularly during the summer months when mosquito activity increases.
