Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias visits Military Command in İskeçe for Easter, praises armed forces

Greece’s Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, visited the headquarters of the Hellenic Army Supreme Military Command of Interior and Islands (ASDITH) in İskeçe on Holy Saturday, exchanging Easter greetings with military personnel and highlighting their critical role in national security.

High-Level Visit to Strategic Command
Dendias was received at the “Thrace” headquarters by Lieutenant General Panagiotis Kavidopoulos, commander of ASDITH. The visit underscores the strategic importance of the region, located in northeastern Greece, near sensitive border areas.

During the visit, the minister met with officers and staff, thanking them for their continuous service to the nation and acknowledging the demands placed on them, even during major religious holidays.

“Guarding the Nation 24/7”
In a brief address, Dendias emphasized the symbolic and practical significance of visiting frontline and border-region units during Easter:

“You are the ones who safeguard the integrity of our homeland 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year—regardless of whether the days are holy or not.”

He noted that such visits aim to reinforce public awareness of the Armed Forces’ contribution to national security, stability, and the everyday sense of safety experienced by citizens.

Dendias also expressed gratitude on behalf of both the government and the Greek people, conveying “love, trust, admiration, and appreciation” for the personnel and their families.

Easter Wishes and Community Engagement
As part of his visit, the defense minister also met with Panteleimon of İskeçe, Metropolitan of İskeçe and Peritheorio, extending Easter wishes in a gesture reflecting the close ties between the Greek state, military, and Orthodox Church during major religious observances.

Symbolism Amid Regional Sensitivities
The visit to ASDITH — a key formation responsible for Greece’s internal defense and island regions — carries symbolic weight, particularly during periods of heightened regional awareness in Eastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean.
