DUTH bans student parties on campus citing safety concerns

Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) has officially banned the organization of student parties on university premises, citing serious safety and security concerns. The decision was announced by Rector Fotios Maris following a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, where issues of campus safety and security staffing were discussed.

According to the rector, the university will no longer issue permits for events traditionally held at the end of the academic year. The facilities, he explained, are not equipped to handle such large gatherings safely, and the university’s services are unable to effectively monitor or control them.

In addition to the ban, DUTH plans to pursue legal action against businesses that offer services or products at unauthorized events on campus grounds.

The university administration will soon inform student unions of the new policy and request their cooperation in maintaining order and complying with institutional rules.

This move aligns with broader national efforts to enhance security in higher education institutions and reflects increasing concerns about unregulated campus activities.
