Protocol of Cooperation for the establishment of a Chair of Armenian Language and Culture
On Monday, February 19, 2024, at the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Greece, the Rector of the Democritus University of Thrace, Prof. Fotis Maris and Tigran Mkrtchyan signed a Cooperation Protocol for the establishment of a Chair of Armenian Language and Culture at the Department of Language, Literature and Culture of the Black Sea Countries of the Faculty of Classical and Humanities Studies.
The Chair will operate with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Greece, Mr. Tigran Mkrtchyan, in his speech after the signing of the Protocol, stressed the historical importance of the establishment of the Chair of Armenian Language and Culture at the Democritus University of Thrace, as it is located in a strategically important region of Greece, has proven sufficient potential and great interest for the development of Armenian Studies, and because there is an active Armenian community in the region.
In his speech, Rector Maris said that the Armenian language and culture, as well as Armenian history are within the interests of the University and the agreement signed will strengthen scientific research on issues related to the language and culture of Armenia in general and the Armenian communities in Greece in particular. He reminded that the Department of Language, Philology and Culture of the Black Sea Countries has significant actions to present in this direction.
