SYRIZA, New Left request parliamentary inquiry into OPEKEPE scandal
A total of 37 Members of Parliament from SYRIZA and the New Left have officially submitted a request to the Hellenic Parliament for the establishment of a parliamentary inquiry committee into the OPEKEPE scandal. Their goal is to ensure a thorough investigation of the case, prevent the indictment from being shelved, and bring full transparency to the alleged wrongdoing.
In a written statement, Özgür Ferhat, MP for Rhodope representing the New Left, declared:
“Just moments ago, the parliamentary groups of SYRIZA and New Left, with the signatures of 37 MPs from both parties, formally submitted our request to Parliament for the establishment of an inquiry committee to bring clarity to the OPEKEPE scandal and to ensure that the crimes and corruption are not covered up.
The fact that progressive, democratic forces are reaching consensus on such a critical matter and moving forward together is a promising sign for what lies ahead.”
The MPs stress the need for accountability and justice, calling for transparency and political responsibility in light of the serious allegations involving financial mismanagement and corruption within the Greek Payment Authority of Common Agricultural Policy Aid Schemes (OPEKEPE).
The move intensifies political pressure on the government to fully address public concerns and ensure that no aspects of the case are ignored or quietly dismissed.
