Giannis Mantzouranis has officially resigned from all positions within the Political Secretariat and Central Committee of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, as well as from his party membership, according to a written letter submitted on Wednesday morning to the party leadership.

In his letter addressed to the party president, the Political Secretariat, and the Central Committee, Mantzouranis stated that his decision was taken after a comprehensive assessment of “real conditions, recent political developments, and party choices,” as well as in the context of ongoing efforts to rebuild a broad democratic progressive front.

He described the decision as a “difficult one,” shaped by current political circumstances, the state of the broader progressive space in Greece, and what he characterized as deadlocks created by the governance of New Democracy under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Despite his resignation from party structures, Mantzouranis emphasized that he is not withdrawing from political and social struggles. He stated that he remains committed to efforts for “national independence, popular sovereignty, and social justice,” and intends to continue participating in public life from positions he considers most effective.

In closing his letter, he thanked colleagues and collaborators with whom he shared his political journey, expressing hope that “we will meet again soon,” despite current political differences. He added that what continues to unite them is “the love for justice, democracy, and above all Greece.”

The resignation marks another internal development within SYRIZA-PS, as the party continues to navigate broader reconfigurations in Greece’s progressive political landscape.
