Opinion poll survey shows political shift in Greece: PASOK falls to fourth place as new political forces rise

A new nationwide survey by Opinion Poll has revealed significant shifts in Greece’s political landscape, with the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) dropping to fourth place amid rising competition from emerging political forces.

According to the poll, the ruling New Democracy party, led by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, continues to hold the top position with 30.5% voter support.

PASOK Falls Behind Emerging Political Movements
One of the most notable developments in the survey is the decline of PASOK, which fell to 10.5%, placing it in fourth position after previously serving as the main opposition party.

The results indicate a reshaping of Greece’s center-left political space, with voter support shifting toward newer political formations.

New Political Forces Gain Ground
Former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and his newly established political initiative, the “Greek Left Alliance (ELAS),” emerged as the second-largest political force with 15.5% support.

Meanwhile, a rapidly rising political formation led by Maria Karystianou secured third place with 12.6%, reflecting growing voter interest in alternative political movements outside the traditional party system.

Opposition Fragmentation Reshapes Political Balance
The poll highlights increasing fragmentation within Greece’s opposition bloc, with competition intensifying among center-left and left-wing parties.

Analysts note that the combined rise of ELAS and Karystianou’s movement appears to have significantly impacted PASOK’s voter base, contributing to its decline in ranking.

Despite opposition volatility, New Democracy maintains its lead, showing resilience amid ongoing criticism related to economic pressures and cost-of-living challenges.

Economy and Cost of Living Dominate Voter Concerns
The survey also indicates that economic issues remain the dominant concern for Greek voters, particularly inflation, income levels, and rising living costs.

These factors are expected to play a decisive role in shaping future political dynamics as parties compete to address widespread public concern over household financial stability.

Outlook: Intensifying Political Competition Ahead
The findings suggest that Greece’s political environment is entering a period of heightened competition, particularly within the opposition, where new political actors are reshaping traditional alignments.

With voter priorities strongly focused on economic hardship, analysts expect continued volatility in party standings leading into the next electoral cycle.
