Alexis Tsipras makes strong political comeback, overtakes PASOK in new Greek Poll

A new opinion poll in Greece suggests a significant reshaping of the country’s political balance, with former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras emerging as the leading figure in the opposition camp and surpassing PASOK for second place.

According to a survey conducted by Interview polling company for Politic.gr, the ruling New Democracy (ND) remains the dominant political force with 26.1% support.

The most notable development, however, was the performance of Tsipras’ new political formation, which reportedly climbed to 12.8%, narrowly overtaking PASOK at 12.3%.

SYRIZA Suffers Dramatic Collapse
The poll also highlighted the continuing collapse of SYRIZA, the left-wing party formerly led by Tsipras.

Support for SYRIZA reportedly plunged from 3.1% in the previous survey to just 0.5%, signaling an unprecedented fragmentation of Greece’s traditional left-wing electorate.

Political analysts increasingly view Tsipras’ new movement as absorbing much of SYRIZA’s remaining political base while repositioning itself as the primary challenger within Greece’s center-left opposition.

Tsipras Re-Emerges as Central Opposition Figure
The findings suggest that Tsipras remains one of the most influential personalities in Greek politics despite stepping away from SYRIZA leadership after the party’s electoral defeats in recent years.

His political return appears to be reshaping opposition dynamics by consolidating anti-government voters dissatisfied with both PASOK and the fragmented left.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and New Democracy continue to maintain a sizeable lead nationally, though the growing fragmentation among opposition parties could become a defining feature of Greece’s political environment heading into future elections.
