Tsipras targets Mitsotakis as sole political rival
Former Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has identified Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his New Democracy government as the main political opponent of his newly formed Greek Left Alliance (ELAS), rejecting the idea of competing with the socialist PASOK party for second place.
“We are preparing, and everyone should keep this in mind, not only to fight the battle, but to govern,” Tsipras told members of the party’s political committee.
Tsipras is due to present ELAS’s governing program in Thessaloniki on Wednesday, with the platform built around what the party describes as honest governance, fair development and industrial reconstruction.
He said the program would target those who “speculate, plunder public funds, and enjoy easy profits and impunity.”
Attack on Mitsotakis
Tsipras accused Mitsotakis of being responsible for what he described as the social and economic damage of recent years.
“New Democracy is responsible and accountable for all the wounds inflicted on society and the country in recent years,” he said.
He also accused the government of presenting a distorted picture of the economy through what he called inflated statistics and high-profile inauguration events, while seeking to generate fear ahead of the next elections.
ELAS builds national organization
At the same meeting, ELAS’s political committee approved the formation of its organizational office and assigned areas of responsibility to its members.
The party also completed the appointment of regional coordinators tasked with expanding its organization at regional and local levels.
Tsipras said the objective was to maintain continuous contact with society and ensure that ELAS’s policies and program reach voters across the country.
The central organizational team includes Sotiris Alexiou, Stelios Apostolou, Tzeni Diamantopoulou, Kostas Boulmetis, Eleni Stavrakaki, Dimitris Chalazonitis, Angelina Chatzopoulou and Thanos Chronas.
ELAS has also assigned responsibility for elections, events, mobilization, membership, youth affairs and its digital platform as it develops its national organization.
Thanos Chronas was appointed organizational head for elections, with Thanos Tasikas serving as deputy. Dimitris Paterelis was assigned responsibility for the youth sector, while Petros Kokkalis was appointed coordinator of the party’s digital organization.
Kostas Boulmetis will serve as director of the secretary’s office.
Regional coordinators have also been appointed across Attica and the country’s other regions, including Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Central Macedonia, Thessaly, Epirus, Western Greece, the Peloponnese, Crete and the Aegean islands.
The appointments come as Tsipras seeks to establish ELAS as a national political force and position it as a potential governing alternative to Mitsotakis’s New Democracy.
ELAS announces organizational structure
The Coordinating Organizational Office will comprise Sotiris Alexiou, Stelios Apostolou, Tzeni Diamantopoulou, Kostas Boulmetis, Eleni Stavrakaki, Dimitris Chalazonitis, Angelina Chatzopoulou and Thanos Chronas.

Stelios Apostolou: Events, mobilizations and membership
Thanos Chronas: Election organization
Thanos Tasikas: Deputy election coordinator

Kostas Boulmetis: Director of the secretary’s office
