Nationwide open-air market strike to begin Jan. 7
In a statement, the Confederation said the mobilization is unavoidable, arguing that while producers and self-employed farmers sell their goods at low prices, current policies raise costs at every stage of distribution.
The strike’s main demands include measures to address high prices, stronger support for farmers through reduced production costs, the abolition of presumptive taxation, the immediate withdrawal of an additional 10% tax burden, and changes to the electronic shipping slip system. The confederation also called for amendments to Law 4849/2021, saying it creates serious obstacles and does not reflect the real operating conditions of open-air markets.
Describing the action as an indefinite nationwide strike, the confederation said it aims to send a clear message “in every direction.”
“Open-air markets support households, farmers and consumers,” the statement said, adding that the sector will not allow markets to become victims of policies that fuel the high cost of living, market concentration and the devaluation of the primary sector.
