Nationwide 24-hour strike in tourism and food sector on Feb 25
A 24-hour nationwide strike in the tourism and food service sector on February 25, as well as a rally at 11:00 a.m. outside the Ministry of Labour, was unanimously decided by the Panhellenic Federation of Food and Tourism Workers (POEET).
According to an announcement on Monday the demands are as follows:
- Eligibility for unemployment benefits for seasonal workers, without terms and conditions, at 80%, as also applies to the regular unemployment benefit.
- Restoration of the lump-sum retirement payment after 20 years of service, as had been in force for decades before the Katseli/Katrougalos law.
- Signing of a new Collective Labour Agreement in food service with pay increases and a five-day, 40-hour workweek, and, in case of work on the 6th day, a pay increase (premium) as provided by law and as applies to other sectors of the Greek economy.
-Inspection mechanisms capable of ensuring fair pay and working conditions, as well as workers’ health and safety.
ADEDY invites public support for Athens rally of farmers on Sunday 13
The Executive Committee of the civil servants' confederation ADEDY issued an open invitation to the public to support protesting farmers, who will arrive at Syntagma Square for a rally at 16:00 on Friday, February 13.
As ADEDY said, "Following the decision of the Panhellenic Committee of Roadblocks, they are arriving with their tractors to continue their fair struggle."
