48-year-old anesthesiologist found dead at Messolonghi hospital
A 48-year-old anesthesiologist was found dead in the on-call room of Messolonghi Hospital in western Greece on Saturday morning, August 29, according to local reports.
The doctor was reportedly on duty at the hospital and had participated normally in the hospital’s schedule the previous evening.
A colleague who went to the on-call room in the morning to relieve him reportedly found him unconscious underneath the bed. He was subsequently found to have died.
According to Michalis Giannakos, president of the Panhellenic Federation of Public Hospital Workers (POEDIN), the 48-year-old doctor was married and had an eight-year-old child.
Giannakos also said that the anesthesiologist had no known health problems.
The circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been made public, and further information is expected as authorities investigate the incident.
