Investigation against two human rights defenders in Greece

Kos Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation against Tommy Olsen, the founder and director of the non-governmental organization Aegean Boat Report, and Panayotis Dimitras, the Director of the Greek Helsinki Monitor.

Media reports stated that Olsen and Dimitras faced charges of "establishing a criminal organization for the purpose of collecting information in order to facilitate the entry of third-country nationals who try to enter Greece illegally".

Norway-based non-governmental organization Aegean Boat Report evaluated Greece's arming of the islands in the Aegean Sea as a provocation.

Quoting a tweet by Prime Minister Kiriakos Mitsotakis, the organization said, "The filling of the islands with US military equipment can be seen as a provocation as it is a violation of the 1923 Lausanne and 1947 Paris agreements." had used the phrase.

Panayotis Dimitras, the Director of the Greek Helsinki Monitor, who is also closely concerned with the human rights violations faced by the Western Thrace Turkish Minority, is also accused of making pro-Türkiye posts by some Greek media outlets.

In the meantime, the website tourkikanea.gr, which focuses on news and comments about Türkiye and Western Thrace Turks, reported on the investigation launched by Kos prosecutor's office against Dimitras and Olsen, "Bravo to Kos prosecutor's office! Criminal charges against Dimitras!” The title was noteworthy.
