Targeted cabinet changes expected this week
Targeted changes to the Greek cabinet are expected to be announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday, according to government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis, who stressed that the move will not amount to a broader government reshuffle.
Speaking to SKAI TV, Marinakis said the changes are expected to follow the election of Konstantinos Kyranakis as the ruling party’s new Secretary-General. The reshuffle is expected to include the appointment of a new Deputy Minister for Transport to replace Kyranakis, as well as the replacement of Nikos Tagaras.
Marinakis also dismissed speculation over the possible replacement of Giorgos Mylonakis, expressing confidence that he will soon return to his duties.
The spokesperson reiterated that the government’s electoral goal remains securing a parliamentary majority, while noting that recent polls place the ruling party around seven to eight percentage points below that threshold. He also ruled out a second election, saying Greece should have a functioning government immediately after election night.
Marinakis said that, in institutional terms, PASOK is the only party with which cooperation could theoretically be considered, although he noted that the party’s leadership has effectively rejected such a prospect.
