Two former SYRIZA lawmakers join PASOK ahead of Greek election
Two former lawmakers from Greece’s left-wing SYRIZA party are joining PASOK, the main center-left opposition party.
Olympia Teligioridou, a former lawmaker for Kastoria and deputy agriculture minister, and Lefteris Avramakis, a former lawmaker for Serres, are expected to seek PASOK nominations in their constituencies.
Both attended a PASOK event in Iraklio, Crete, marking the party’s founding anniversary. The moves come as PASOK seeks to expand its support and challenge the governing conservative New Democracy party.
SYRIZA, which governed Greece from 2015 to 2019, has struggled with declining support and internal divisions.
PASOK officials are touring northern Greece ahead of the Thessaloniki International Fair, the country’s largest annual political and business gathering.
