Greece delivers additional armored vehicles to Lebanon
The second part of Greece's military equipment donation was handed over at the Port of Beirut on Saturday, August 29, 2026. The shipment included 13 M113 armored personnel carriers (APCs) and 10 STEYR 680 M general-purpose vehicles transported to Lebanon aboard the Greek landing ship RODOS.
According to Defence Review GR, the handover ceremony was attended on the Greek side by Ignatios Papadimitriou, Consul of Greece in Beirut, representing the Greek ambassador, Greece's defense attaché in Beirut and Panos Andriotis, president of the Greek community in Beirut.
The first part of the Greek donation was delivered on January 15, 2026. That shipment also consisted of 13 M113 APCs, 10 STEYR 680 vehicles and spare parts.
Greece's M113 donation to Lebanon
Greece approved the transfer of 13 M113 armored personnel carriers to the Lebanese Armed Forces in June 2025, following an official request from Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The decision was approved by the Greek Parliament's Special Permanent Committee on Armaments Programs and Contracts.
The M113 vehicles were sourced from surplus Greek Army stocks and underwent the necessary maintenance procedures in Greece before being transferred to Lebanon.
The donation is reportedly linked to dialogue that began while Aoun was serving as commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces and is viewed as a continuation of defense cooperation between Athens and Beirut.
Military training cooperation also expanding
In addition to the delivery of M113 vehicles and other military equipment, Greece is seeking to expand officer training programs for Lebanese personnel in Greece.
Lebanese officers are already receiving training at various Greek institutions. Discussions are now also underway on naval cooperation, with a focus on training Lebanese crews.
The latest delivery further strengthens defense cooperation between Greece and Lebanon and represents the second major shipment of military equipment provided by Athens to the Lebanese Armed Forces in 2026.
