Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has voiced strong opposition to Israel’s military operations in Lebanon, warning that continued strikes risk destabilizing the region and triggering a humanitarian crisis.

In an interview with CNN, Mitsotakis said Israel’s ongoing attacks are “not producing any benefit” and could instead revive weakened militant groups such as Hezbollah.

Greece Calls for Comprehensive Ceasefire

Mitsotakis emphasized that any meaningful ceasefire must extend beyond Gaza and include Lebanon and all active operational zones.

“If we are to speak about a full ceasefire, it must cover all theaters of operation, including Lebanon,” he said.

He also urged the international community to allow the Lebanese government time to reassert control over southern regions, noting that Lebanon now has a functioning government after decades of instability.

Warning of Humanitarian Consequences

The Greek leader warned that continued escalation could result in severe humanitarian consequences in Lebanon.

Israel’s actions risk breathing life back into Hezbollah while pushing the region toward further instability,” he stated.

Greece Rejects Iran’s Hormuz ‘Toll System’

Mitsotakis also criticized Iran over reports of a proposed paid transit system in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy corridor.

He described the initiative as “completely unacceptable” and warned that the international community is unprepared for such a development.

Call for New International Agreement

According to Mitsotakis, a new international framework is needed to regulate passage through the Strait of Hormuz—one that guarantees free navigation and excludes any form of transit fees.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical chokepoints for oil shipments, and any disruption could have far-reaching economic and geopolitical consequences.
