On November 15, 2024, the Athens City Council issued a call for a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, urging the Greek government to avoid any cooperation that could exacerbate the humanitarian crisis and to actively participate in initiatives aimed at bringing peace to the region.

Kostas Papadakis, a member of the Athens City Council, announced the decision on social media, revealing that the council had called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the ongoing conflicts in Lebanon. According to the decision, the council urged the Greek government to refrain from any actions that could lead to the spread of war, worsen the humanitarian crisis, or increase civilian casualties. Additionally, they called for Greece to actively engage in efforts to implement a ceasefire.

The Palestinian community in Greece shared on social media that Athens is the first European capital to call for a ceasefire in both Palestine and Lebanon through a city council vote.
