Greece, US launch cooperation to boost migrant returns
Greece and the United States have begun cooperation aimed at increasing returns of irregular migrants, the Greek Migration and Asylum Ministry said on Friday.
The initiative follows a decision by Migration Minister Thanos Plevris, with U.S. officials providing briefings and training to Greek staff on deportation practices. The first seminar took place on March 27 as part of broader efforts to enhance migration management.
During the session, U.S. officials presented the CBP Home mobile application, used to facilitate voluntary returns and streamline procedures. The ministry said the tool supports “dignified” returns while improving efficiency.
In a statement, the U.S. Embassy in Greece said the two countries are expanding cooperation on tackling irregular migration, including sharing best practices and strengthening border security and law enforcement coordination.
