Greece: Registered unemployed down 6.2% in August, says DYPA

The number of registered unemployed in Greece fell by 6.2% year-on-year in August, according to official figures released by the Public Employment Service (DYPA).
Unemployment registrations stood at 790,844, down by 52,698 compared to August 2024. On a monthly basis, the number dropped slightly by 4,744 (-0.6%) from July 2025.
Of the total, 423,784 people (53.6%) have been registered for 12 months or more, while 367,060 (46.4%) have been unemployed for less than a year.
Unemployment Benefits
The number of people receiving unemployment benefits in August 2025 reached 170,604, a decline of 6,327 (-3.6%) compared to August 2024, but a sharp increase of 59,656 (+53.8%) compared to July 2025.
96.4% (164,420) were classified as “general unemployed” and other categories.
3.6% (6,184) were seasonal workers in the tourism sector.
Men accounted for 51,119 (30%), while women made up 119,485 (70%).

Demographics and Regions
Gender: 243,813 men (30.8%) vs. 547,031 women (69.2%).
Age: The 30–44 group had the highest share with 249,964 people (31.6%).
Education: Secondary education graduates represented the largest group at 358,800 (45.4%).
Regions: Attica recorded the most unemployed (281,559 or 35.6%), followed by Central Macedonia (158,793 or 20.1%).
